Sunday 30 September 2012

Hey everyone its Sunday and the last day in the month! what is everyone reading today??? I've just started
The forest of hands & teeth by Carrie Ryan
I have just Finished heaven sent us an angel!!

Heaven sent us an Angel
Alison Grey

I have read a few books that talk about the life of the author but this book was slightly different as it was a dedication to Alison's mother!

The book follows Alison from a young child till the present day.It describes the struggles of her mother, the story starts when Sylvia Grey tells Alison she is pregnant with her 3rd child. it follows her struggle to deal with the death of her son Ashley, care for her parents, care for her daughter after a accident, care for her dying husband and looking after her son who was born with cerebral palsy, hearing and sight problems. sadly Sylvia Grey dies of heart failure and this book shows her struggles and what a loving mother she is, it also shows how a evil (her words not mine) selfish child can mature in to a loving and selfless woman when faced with losing both parents and being left responsible for her younger brother.

I have to say i wasn't sure about this book. Alison is a lovely person but i wasn't sure i would be about to read such an emotional story without getting upset or feel like i was intruding on someones most personal moments!
I am glad i kept reading! This story  was very emotional for me and i found i connected with the story straight away as it happened practically on my door step. Alison's nana reminded me of my nana the way she had to feed everyone, look after everyone and would do anything to help her family. in a way this story was upsetting for me because it reminded me so much of my nana and highlighted all that i have lost but in another way it made me smile because it reminded me of her so bad and Alison shows how you can come out the other side of losing someone close to you! Alison also pointed out that elderly people although it is still not easy saying good bye have lived an exceptional life and have achieved everything they wanted!so in away this book was emotional for me as it reminded me of the death of my nana and cried when Alison's nana and mam died! but also made me smile at the stupid things the people in the north do.

If you are not from the northeast of England you may not understand some of the phases used in the story. It does take a few chapters to get in to the story as it jumps around in time for a while to set the seen for the rest of the book so you have to follow the book carefully to keep up. There is a few spelling mistakes but that can be cover looked by the emotional story.

this was a lovely book, it was heartbreaking, heart wrenching and beautiful! i feel honored to have met Alison's family! it was well worth reading! It did take a while to get in to but once the story really starts its tear jerking! 3*

FEED (newslesh #1)
Mira Grant

I got this book as a birthday present from my brother after i nagged him over and over again to get it.
First i should say i have absolutely no idea what am going to say or how am going to start this review! the book was just that awesome!

Imagine a world where the common cold is a thing of the past, where cancer no longer exists, that is the world Georgia and Shaun mason live in! sounds amazing right? wrong! in this world something more sinister is at play! a virus that once infected with turns humans in to zombies! when the media failed  to report the virus out break and lied and the public ran for safety the only people willing to come out of hiding and dance with the zombies were bloggers, determined to tell the truth and get the word out! Feed follows the lives of Georgia and Shaun mason and there professional team of bloggers.  Georgia and Shaun get the opportunity of a life time when they are accepted  to follow the presidential campaign and report  the truth on all the comings and goings of the possible next president of America. what they didn't realise is the size of the truth they would stumble upon! with corrupt politicians against them and three zombie attacks on there campaign trail  and attempts on their lives the team start to realise this is no coincidence, with people they can trust dwindling and the net closing around them the team most act fast to discover the truth and that truth may just come at a cost!

When i first started this book i found it a little hard to get i to, i was expecting a story where the zombies tried to kill humans and humans desperately fought back or where a girl falls in love with one of the zombies and i was completely wrong! Because the book was the first i have read that is based around politics i found it abit hard to get in to, once i started to get in to the book and the story started moving i was totally hooked! i thought i would miss the fact that the book had no romance in but i didn't! so much happened and it is just non-stop action i didn't have time to miss it! from the first page to the last i was sucked in and felt like i was on this journey with the characters! the writing style was amazing! by the end of this book i was actually hysterically crying! i have only ever cried an p.s i love you and the note book and never have i cried so much i couldn't read the next page! it was so emotional! i was literally heartbroken! i seriously morned!

I feel in love with Shaun within the first few pages when he was poking a zombie with a stick! i seriously made me laugh so much! while people are worrying and being serious he doesn't have a care in the world! he does the most risky and kick ass stuff and is just totally awesome! i think he made the parts of the book that were heavy more light heart! what i loved about Shaun's character is that you see his wild hard side but also his safe side that does not risk the safety of him and his sister and you also see how much he loves is sister and it is nice to see that close connection! at the end of the book you see a destroyed version of Shaun who doesn't want to risk anything, doesn't want to poke zombies with a stick and it's heart breaking!

what can i say about Georgia i just totally loved her! anyone who knows me will tell you she is just my twin sister. she controls everything, has a plan for everything and everything is done her way or no way! i love her no shit attitude and how she never looks pleased to see someone just for there benefit she has the same you rather love me or hate me attitude i have and according to the people in my gym this is a bad thing! hell no! i just love the way she doesn't take no for an answer! she is totally kick ass even when her life is in the balance she has strength and bravery some could only wish for. she hides behind this hard persona but you see the side that does care when you see her relationship with her brother! and i love this contrast!

I can actually not articulate how good this book is! it is just amazing! i was unsure if i would like it at first but i am so glad that i read it and so glad that kayleigh  http://k-booksxo.blogspot.co.uk/ recommended it! note though have tissues ready! lots of them heart wrenching is and understatement!
if you like dystopian or zombie books then this is your calling
one of the best books i have ever read! 5* ammmmmazing!

Snow White and the Huntsman
lily Blake, Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock and Hossein Amini

I read this book simple becuase i went ot the pictures to see the film and loved it so i thought why not (plus there is a poster of Chris Hemsworth in the back... can you really resist that!)

Am sure you all no the story of snow white but this is the bed time story with a kick!
When the king is lead in to battle against a formidable army he is thrown off guard when the opponent shatter in to pieces and are defeatend in momnets, realing in his vicory the king is blind to the dark forces at hand and fails to see it staring hi in the face but the name of Ravenna! descised as a prisoner the king is enchanted but her beauty. Soon after there are due to be married with snow white in  toe Ravenna walks the ailse sealing the kings fate and extracting revenge for her family. that night she kills the king and takes comand of the village unleashing darkness, stravation and war upon its people! but one little princess has a nack for survival. 10 years passed and snow white remained a prisoner in the castle, until the day she escaped! meeting unlikely friends, make extrodanary journeys  will she find her way to the dukes castle and rain war down on the evil queen  or will the queen find her first? can she protect her heart from a queen who wants to steal it or a manwho wishes to own it?

I really enjoyed this book i loved the movie and this book just explained more of the thoughts and emotions of the character in the book. at the end of the movei i got really irriataed that she didnt end uo with any of the main characters but in the book she describes william as a friends and shows she has feeling for the huntsman. i loved the story line of the book the story kept to the basic concept of the original story but put a modern twist on it!

The huntsman *sigh* i love the fact i have a picture for this! i loved the huntsman even more in the book than in the film! he is just the cutest! i love the different sides of eric that you see. you see the heart breaking fact he lost his wife to the queen the angrer and grief he goes through  and the amount of drinking he does to numb the pain, you also he a happier side when he falls for snow white he stops drink and turns him self arouns so it was nice to see the contrast between  this heart wrenching side and happier non- vulnrable manly side! i love the way they used the huntsman in this version in the original story her hunts her then reurns to the queen with a pigs heart. in this version he goes on the run with her, teaches her to fight and helps defet the queen and take her right as queen!

I loved snow white in the book. in the original story shes all girly and cant really do a thing for herself but in this book she is kind and all animals and people love her and she is the one to bring down the queen but also he takes no crao and rages a full scale  war on the castle which is kind of kick ass! at the begining of the book you a vulnarbel snow white she has no family and shes lock in a tower where a creepy perv keeps watching her but after her escape you see a more determined and tough side to her which i loved!

I

I have to say that the quenn was one of my faverite characters! i love the psychologival aaspect to her. she rages war on the king because he killed her family she uses powers of suduction to manipulate men! its just deliciposuly evil! i feel sorry for the queen in a way because she lost her family and i think that is why she starts the war but also i think it is why she keeps snow white alive, she lost her mother also and the queen killed her father. there are times in this book when the queen is hard and you hate her but also times when she is soft and vunaerbale and almost child like!

i thought the action, fantasy  and romance worked really well in this book! one minute it sad then happy then funny then huntsmans style swoonworthy! i really enjoyed it! i would give it 3*

Lust, Money and Murder (#Book 2)
Mike Wells

The second book in the series and  as thrilling and exciting as the first.

Elanie thought she had it all the perfect job, the perfect apartment, friends and now the perfect man but Elaine's world comes crashing down when she receives one simple phone call from a former friend gene Lassiter. Before disaster hits Elaine leaves her perfect life behind to go and work under Lassiter in Washington. Elaine throws herself in her work identifying faults with fake bank notes to create a new computer upgrade to give to banks to help identify fakes. when Gene is to kill to take the trip to Russia to deliver the upgrade Elaine is more than happy to help him. But when Elaine is arrested at the airport and accused of stealing the data stick her life takes an unexpected twist! Elaine finds herself on the run from the US government and the Russian mafia  the only question on her mind is how did could that bastered set her up like this? when on the run Elaine meets and unexpected ally she finds herself in the corrupt world she set out to destroy! will she fight and bring down the men she blames for helping in her fathers death or will she fall victim to the glits and glamour of  criminal life? With no where else to turn can she get herself out of this situation or will she follow in her fathers foot steps?

Just like the first one i really enjoyed this book. i actually thought this book was better than the first one, while the first one builds the story and characters this book kicks of the action. There are alot of twists and turns, alot of tricks and deception and it really keeps you guessing! will she? wont she? There are alot of places where your heart is really in you mouth! you really just don't no whats going to happen in the storyline... and the end!.... keeps you thinking! Just like the first book its beautifully written!

As always i love Elanie... maybe more so in this book. in the first book you saw Elanie finding her feet but in this book you see a different side to her. She is more established, confident and determined in this book and although she still has that vulnerable side that we saw in the first book you also see a harder kick ass side that goes hunting down criminals.

Again i really enjoyed this book  i cant wait to read the 3rd one to see which path she takes because right now it aint looking good and am also dying to see if she gets back with nick from the first book.
but great book well worth the read 4*
